I’m a multimedia story producer, editor, and writer based in Austin, Texas.
From 2015 to 2023, I was Senior Producer and Director of Live Production at Pop-Up Magazine, where I produced, edited, and directed live storytelling spectacles for tens of thousands of people a year at grand, historic venues across North America.
We also created performances for the Sundance Film Festival, the Aspen IdeasFestival, and the Cannes Lion Festival, and designed special events for Apple, Patagonia, ESPN, Hermes, Facebook, Amazon Studios,National Geographic, Google, Dropbox, and Nike.
In addition to our live tours, I also collaborated on some really fun special projects that pushed the bounds of what a live magazine can be. Some of my favorites include an eight-part storytelling installation placed around three American cities (The Sidewalk Issue), an interactive audio project paired with a special print companion piece (Field Guide), and a box of stories in all shapes and sizes shipped to subscribers around the world during the pandemic (Issue in a Box).
Before Pop-Up, I worked as Director of KUT Austin’s statewide news show Texas Standard. That’s where I learned how to direct and score a live show, and cut my teeth in the daily news world. I also spent time reporting and producing features on music and culture for the show.
In 2012, I helped Delaney Hall launch the Austin Music Map, which was a partnership between AIR’s Localore Labs and KUT Austin. We also organized a music festival, MAPJAM, that I ended up running, from 2013-2015. You can learn more about what that was like here and here.
I got my start in audio journalism as a producer for the award-winning music journalism program Texas Music Matters at KUT Austin. I helped report and produce stories for our weekly broadcast. I was also senior producer on hour-long documentary specials that explored Women in Texas Music, Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen, the musical connection between Texas and Louisiana, and others.
I’ve been a featured speaker for classes at Columbia University’s Journalism School, UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, and Stanford’s Medicine and the Muse program.
As a producer and editor, I’m drawn to stories that span a broad range of topics but have one thing in common: they help us learn more about the world around us.
